Network Fundamentals — Complete Tutorial
Welcome to the Times of Cloud — Network Fundamentals Tutorial. Whether you’re a developer who wants to understand how your code travels across the internet, a sysadmin building on your existing knowledge, or a DevOps engineer preparing for cloud and Kubernetes work — this tutorial takes you from zero to confident.

What is this Networking Tutorial?
Networking is the invisible foundation of everything we build. Every API call, every container-to-container connection, every cloud deployment — it all runs on networks. Yet most developers and even many DevOps engineers have gaps in their understanding of how networks actually work.
This tutorial fills those gaps. We start from the very basics (what is a network?) and build systematically to advanced topics like subnetting, cloud VPCs, TLS certificates, and real-world troubleshooting.

What You’ll Learn
- Area 1 — Foundations: What networking is, types of networks, the OSI model, the TCP/IP model
- Area 2 — Addressing: IPv4/IPv6 structure, address classes, private vs public IPs, subnetting and CIDR
- Area 3 — Infrastructure: Routing, switching, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, and NAT
- Area 4 — Transport Layer: TCP, UDP, ports, sockets, the three-way handshake
- Area 5 — Application Protocols: HTTP/HTTPS, TLS, SSH, SMTP, WebSockets
- Area 6 — Security & Operations: Firewalls, VPNs, common attacks, Linux networking commands
- Area 7 — Advanced Topics: Wireless networking, cloud networking (VPCs, security groups, load balancers), troubleshooting, and next steps
Prerequisites
- Basic comfort with a terminal (running commands)
- A Linux or macOS machine (most commands also work on WSL on Windows)
- No prior networking knowledge required
